Eticor in China – creating a competitive advantage through compliance

On July 16, 2019, we founded our own subsidiary, Eticor (Nanjing) Co. Ltd. in the provincial capital Nanjing, not far from Shanghai. Compliance requirements for companies are growing at an unimaginable speed in China: legal requirements and new rating systems are placing unprecedented demands on companies both at home and abroad. With our branch office in Nanjing, we are now able to implement our digital compliance management system Eticor locally, to take up legal changes and to support companies in compliance issues.

Own expert team on site

Our colleagues on site are experts in Chinese law and therefore strictly familiar with the complex legal system in China. Shortly after the opening of the Nanjing office, the Chinese colleagues were invited to our headquarters in Germany. Here they were warmly welcomed by the team of Eticor and received targeted training as part of the onboarding program lasting several weeks. A special focus was placed on familiarization with the Eticor as well as on project work including site visit at customers and the creation of legal registers. With the help of project-related trainings by the lawyers and project managers in Grosswallstadt and Leipzig as well as systematic and practice-relevant EHS trainings, the expertise of the Chinese team was further deepened. Back in China, the newly gained know-how regarding project work could be directly put into practice.

Pilot project with EMZ Hanauer

Due to the positive experiences with Eticor in Germany, several Eticor customers have already expressed great interest in implementing the software at international locations. After the successful training of the Chinese colleagues, the first project in China could be started in November 2019 with the implementation of Eticor in the Chinese branch of EMZ Hanauer. The site visit means of checklists and a tour of the company on site has already taken place. It is gratifying that the tasks and legal obligations from hundreds of laws and regulations have already been processed for Eticor and will soon be delegated and assigned based on the customer’s organization. Due to the smooth course of the project we are very confident that we will be able to complete it successfully by the end of March 2020.

Next Steps and the Corporate Social Credit System

As a member of the European Chamber of Commerce, the team of Martin Mantz International GmbH actively participates in relevant compliance meetings and supports not only European companies on site. For this purpose, an Executive Breakfast will also be held shortly to inform local companies about developments in digital compliance. Of course, trends and current developments such as the “Corporate Social Credit System” will be discussed, whose legal regulations can be recorded with Eticor and made available to companies digitally as tasks. The Corporate Social Credit System in China does not only drastically increase the requirements for companies, but also their documentation obligations and possible penalties if they do not comply with the constantly changing regulations. These penalties go as far as “blacklisting”, i.e. the de facto exclusion from China’s economic life. However, those who adhere to the laws and regulations of the Corporate Social Credit System will be treated advantageously in China in return and will, for example, receive improved market access, faster customs clearance, or better credit conditions.
